Branches
Because of the difficulty in such a large county to travel to
one point for all meetings and events, we have Branches throughout
Devon. These have their own officers who arrange meetings and
visits of general interest. Normally, Members join the Branch
located nearest their home, but it is open to a Member to join any,
or none, as they wish

The Axe Valley Branch holds monthly meetings on the second
Wednesday of each month from October to March (inclusive) in
Colyford Village Hall. The December meeting is usually preceded by
a buffet in a local pub. The Branch also holds a summer evening
meeting in May or June and an outing to a place of interest in
Devon. The monthly meeting follows a regular format comprising a
talk by an invited speaker, a short discussion/question session,
and tea and cakes. The talks cover a wide range of topics and an
annual programme is sent to Branch Members and is available to
others who contact either the Branch secretary or the DA Registrar
in Exeter (please enclose an SAE). DA members are asked to make a
donation of up to £1 and visitors are asked to make a
donation of £1.50 for each meeting. Both DA members and
visitors are always welcome.

We have a very full programme of events throughout the year
focused on monthly lectures throughout the autumn and winter and
regular excursions in the summer months. We aim to provide an
interesting mix of speakers and excursions to fulfil the aims of
the DA and so to present Devon as it is developing today, and not
just as it was in the past. We have a very comfortable and pleasant
venue for our winter meetings in the Town Hall's Council Chamber in
Newton Abbot. The easy accessibility of our meeting venue is a
great help to those members who rely on public transport.

The Tavistock Branch meets normally on the third Friday of the
month from September to April, at 7.30pm in the Tavistock Parish
Church Centre, Plymouth Road. Talks are usually illustrated, are
given by notable speakers on a wide range of subjects, and efforts
are made to vary them and to include topics that are relevant, as
far as possible, to the interests of the various Sections. An
exception is the Januaryn meeting, which takes the form of a social
evening, with a supper. Occasional outdoor meetings are held during
the summer months. The Branch has a growing and lively membership,
and visitors and prospective new members are warmly welcomed.
